Mara Matsumura
was born and raised in Berkeley, California, to second generation Japanese-American parents from Washington and Hawaii. With a background in Environmental Studies and Math, she currently manages a library and information center at a local biotechnology company.
Mara’s interests include: music, travel, backpacking, running, hiking, bicycling, reading, writing, and the outdoors. To-date, her favorite travel destinations include: Cuba, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Croatia, and the high Sierras.
Mara’s writing draws from her colorful family, socio-political perspectives, environmental work, volunteer stints in Africa, wilderness journeys, and international travel. She has served as editor and written for various professional association publications and company newsletters. Mara is currently working on a collection of non-fiction pieces.
