Elizabeth Medina, writer, poet, translator, was born and raised in the Philippines. She has lived in the USA and currently resides in Chile. She is author of various works in English and Spanish. The selection in Literary Well is a fragment from her new book, Sampaguitas en la cordillera, Reencuentro con Filipinas en Chile (RIL editores, 2006). The book (in Spanish) is an album of memories, ideas and information about Philippine history and identity, and the personal quest of the author to learn about the enigmatic life of her paternal grandfather, Emilio Medina.
