A Bit of Pain

I sleep in the minutes,
in the turning away,
in the hurt of evening and
morning of days.
I fold up my heart
and store it away
with the blankets
I wrap around my feelings,
safe protection
that I build in layers
around words I'll never say.
With soft footsteps
I walk in the silence
of non-life
and if you ask, my love,
I'll deny it.

Not a New Thought

You will never see the difference
if I change,
the sun will shine
on your gardens
just the same,
lighting seduction
even when the
dim shades of winter
keep the birds quiet.
Nothing will change for you
except the target of invasion.

I can never be positive;
you see the same stars
every night in the sky,
maybe you never did,
so I will tend my flowers
just the same
and the leaves will be my tears
and you will never know.
