I saw you standing underneath a street light
surrounded by the cautious air of night.
How did it hapen? Was it an unforeseen apparition?
Or was it the silent invocation of my yearning heart?

I stood transfixed by your gaze,
immersed in some peculiar mix: awe and desire,
felicitous confusion of the senses.
Shot. Unmistakably wounded by Cupid's careless aim.

Yet true love has a way in which,
left unattended and without pursuit,
it does assume, through metamorphoses,
a grander but less conspicuous form
and what was once a blind and candent folly,
an ever seeking, ever lusting fire,
is redefined: pristine essential shape
which gathers every truth in its unchanging whole.

Still wanton Cupid flees not away defeated
to fall into complete oblivion
giving Agape license to the soul.
A quiet song unites pure love
and lusty Eros in silent celebration
and thus, in solemn marriage, body and soul,
are forever wedded in sweet union.
