Song

Sweet scents of evening,
late roses, jasmine and ginger,
sing in summer's garden
while heat-humming city sounds
ride heavily on the moving dusk.
Endings? Not yet ,
only pauses
to savor night tastes and flowers.
Honeysuckle,
pungent carnation spice,
perfumed basil
stop at stainless steel
pots and pans,
to mingle with steam and cooking,
wine and smoky fish,
and voices soaking in
sultry air.
Bees purr,
bird sounds settle,
soft currents pour
comfort onto a soul excoriated,

still time.

o
The Search

I exist,
only that,
alone.
I see no road to walk
out of my shade,
no difference
in cities of the world,
other countries,
other seas.
I wear lonely places like a coat,
covering the emptiness inside
and laugh
and run,
hiding, for a little while,
in the daily crowd of faces, rituals,
and minutes moving;
trying to touch what hangs in the sky,
always knowing that the
coldness of infinity
is waltzing with my loneliness,
that the answer ends
in my soul's empty room.
